Mount Cameron Beach (T 933) commences at the northern base of the basalt mount, as the basalt boulders that rim the base give way to the low gradient white sandy beach that trends to the north for 3.2 m to the beginning of the next rocky section of shore. The mount protrudes 1 km seaward in the south affording some protection to the southern corner of the beach. Wave height however increases rapidly up the beach, with one, then two and finally three bars dominating most of the surf zone, which widens to 400-500 m at the northern end. The inner bar is usually cut by five strong rips, with more widely spaced rips crossing the outer bars. The beach is backed by both vegetated and a 200 ha area of active dunes which form an active sand sheet of transverse dunes, and whose deflation basin has been partly stabilised in the past 20 years. The dunes extend up to 3 km inland rising to more than 50 m in places. Several small creeks run though the dunes to drain onto the beach.
Beach Length: 3.2km
General Hazard Rating: 8/10
