Beach T 887 extends north of the boundary rocks for 800 m to the mouth of Nelson Bay River, which crosses the northern end of the beach and bay in lee of a northern sand-draped rocky point and a reef in front of the river mouth. The beach faces due west with waves averaging over 1.5 m, which maintain a 100 m wide low gradient bar usually drained by rips to either end. It is backed by largely vegetated dunes which have spread over backing bedrock slopes to a height of 40 m and extending 700 m to the northeast, with the creek and river to either side, both forming elongate narrow lagoons. The dunes have stabilised substantially in the last few decades.
