East Beach (RI 8) is a 3.8 km long northeast-facing beach located between Marys Island and the southern Cape Elie, a low basalt and boulder point. The beach receives waves averaging up to 1.5 m in the centre, decreasing to either side owing to deeper reefs off the beach. The waves and fine beach sand maintain a low gradient bar that widens to 100 m in the centre and which is cut by rips when waves exceed 1 m (Fig. 4.211). The beach is backed by a continuous series of low foredunes that widen from 100 m in the north to 400 m in the centre, and include some vegetated blowouts in the south. A vehicle track runs along the rear of the dunes, with cleared farmland behind.
Beach Length: 3.8km
