Beach T 973 commences on the eastern side of the 700 m wide entrance to Welcome Inlet, a shallow funnel-shaped 300 ha inlet. It then trends to the east for 2 km to the entrance to the shallow 1 km wide Swan Bay. The beach is low and narrow and fronted by tidal flats that widen to 2.5 km with deeper tidal channels to either side. A 200 m wide fringe of scrub then low cleared and drained farmland, known as the Swan Bay Plain, back the beach.
