South Arm Beach (T 418) extends for 2.3 km along the eastern shore of Halfmoon Bay. The curving beach faces west across the Derwent and receives waves averaging less than 1 m which maintain a reflective to low tide terrace beach composed of fine sand. It is backed by a low grassy foredune with some beachfront houses and boat sheds in the south, centre and north, with a narrow coastal reserve in between and low rocky shore to either end. There is a boat ramp and jetty on the rocks at the southern end of the beach, while the South Arm Road parallels the beach 200 m inland.
Beach Length: 2.3km
