Heather Bay is a 1.5 km wide semi-circular bay into which flows Kellatie Creek. Beach T 655 commences at the creek mouth and curves to the northwest, then west for 1.2 km, generally facing southwest down the bay. The beach consists of a narrow high tide beach fronted by continuous 100 m wide sand flats which merge with the creek flats in the south. It is backed by a low densely vegetated foredune.
