Barnbougle Beach (T 1236) extends from the eastern side of the 50 m wide Bird River mouth for 3.7 km to Adams Cut, a small creek mouth that drains the backing Pleistocene dunes. The beach receives refracted waves, which increase in height up the beach to average up to 1 m by the Cut. The waves maintain a sandy high tide beach and low tide terrace which increases in width to the east, with low tide rips forming during periods of higher waves. The first 800 m of beach is a low narrow spit, with oblique vegetated transgressive dunes commencing by 1.5 km and backing the remainder of the beach. The dunes average 500 m in width and reach 10-15 km in height.
Beach Length: 3.7km
