Beach T 1256 commences in lee of Tomahawk Point and trends to the southeast for up to 700 m to the river mouth. The beach however varies considerably in nature and length in response to floods, sand supply and river mouth conditions. The beach is fronted by 300 m wide sand flats associated with the river mouth. It was until the 1980s backed by usually 100-300 m wide bare overwash flats, which are periodically destabilised by the migration of the river mouth. These were planted in the late 1970s and are now largely stabilised and covered by shrubs. The now low vegetated barrier is backed by cleared grazing land, with public access via a footbridge crossing the 50 m wide river channel to reach the middle of the dunes.
Beach Length: 0.7km
