Waterhouse Beach (T 1237) commences at the Cut and curves to the northeast and finally north-northeast for 20 km to the 42 m high doleritic South Croppies Point. It is a continuous high energy sandy beach dominated by low tide rips for its entire length, with an outer rhythmic bar also paralleling most of the beach. The rips average 150 m in spacing with more than 120 rips forming along the beach during periods of higher waves, their morphology usually remaining into the following calmer periods. The inner surf zone and rips average 100 m in width with the outer bar located 200-300 m offshore. The beach is backed by a generally well developed foredune, backed by Holocene parabolics to longwalled parabolic dunes, which average 1-2 km in width in the south increasing to 3-4.5 km in the north (Fig. 4.281). Approximately 50% of the dunes are currently active and migrating east. They average 20 m in height reaching up to 50 m in locations. The beaches have impounded three lakes - Blackmans Lagoon, Big Waterhouse Lake and Little Waterhouse Lake, with two of the lakes drained by creeks, which reach the beach. The Sanderson Rocks lie 1.5 km off the northern end of the beach, off Lake Creek, and induce a slight protrusion in the shoreline.
Beach Length: 20km
General Hazard Rating: 6/10
