Trousers Point Beach (FI 34) is a curving 1.8 km long beach that trends north of Holts Point finally curving to the west in lee of Trousers Point (Fig. 4.297). The low gradient beach is exposed to periodic higher westerly wind waves, which arrive from either north or south of the Chappell Islands, located 10 km to the west. The waves are sufficiently high to maintain a low tide terrace to occasionally transverse bar and rips system, with up to 10 rips forming along the beach spaced every 150-200 m, while seagrass grows in deeper water about 200 m offshore. The beach is backed by a continuous 10-15 m high grassy foredune, with cleared farmland behind, then steep partly bare granite slopes rising to 670 m high Lovetts Hill. A 40 ha wetland backs the northern end of the beach and occasionally breaks out across the beach. The beach is accessible in the northern corner, which borders the national park. read more
