Big River Cove is located at the mouth of Big River, with the beach (FI 27) curving to the west of the small river mouth for 900 m to the 100 long boundary granite point. The beach faces west-southwest and is sheltered by Sarah Blanche Point, which extends 800 m to the south of the river mouth. The beach grades from a low energy reflective in the east with seagrass growing to the shore, to a reflective beach fronted by 200-300 m wide sand flats adjacent to the western corner and river mouth. The river has been deflected 200 m to the west with a spit backing this section of the beach and a foredune increasing to 25 m in height to the east. The Big River Road terminates at the river, with a walking track through to the beach.
