Beach FI 42 commences on the northern side of the 50 m wide river mouth and trends to the northwest for 900 m. It is a narrow 10 m wide high tide beach fronted by 200 m wide tidal flats. It is backed by a continuous low scrub-covered foredune, part of the narrow reserve, then the Flinders Island Airport. Beach FI 43 lies 600 m to the west and is a southwest-facing 400 m long very low energy high tide strip of sand, with a central rock outcrop and fronted by 300 m wide tidal flats. Low terrain covered by scrubs and trees backs the beach.
