Whitemark Beach (FI 39) commences at Lagoons Point and trends almost due north for 5.9 km to the Whitemark jetty, which cuts the once continuous beach in two (Fig. 4.299). Extensive sand flats and seagrass meadows extend to the lee of Big Green Island, linking with Lagoons Point, with 500 m wide flats continuing all the way to Whitemark and beyond. The island and flats lower waves to less than 0.5 m at the shore, where they maintain a steep, narrow high tide beach to the lee of the wide intertidal flats. At Whitemark a channel has been dredged to permit vessels to reach the 100 m long jetty. A low stable foredune continues along the beach past the golf course to Whitemark, with a second drain crossing the beach on the southern boundary of the golf course. There is a boat ramp at the jetty and a picnic area just south of the town.
