Beach T 1218 continues north of the boundary rocks for another 2.5 km to a 200 m long section of dune-capped rocks. It is a similar beach with a slightly higher wave energy double bar system, usually containing 10 inner bar rips and the rhythmic outer bar. A moderately stable foredune and more active parabolic dunes extend up to 4 km inland, with the older Pleistocene dunes crossing the 9 km of plain to reach the coast east of East Sandy Cape. In total the two beaches are backed by approximately 2000 ha of Holocene transgressive dunes, which average 30-40 m in height, of which approximately 30% remain unstable and are actively transgressing to the east (Fig. 4.275). The dunes have for the past 20 years been actively stabilised by dune planting to prevent them migrating onto the backing farmland located on the Pleistocene dunes. The only access to the beaches is via 4WD along a few tracks through the dunes and along the beach.
Beach Length: 2.5km
General Hazard Rating: 6/10
