Pilots Bay is a sheltered west-facing shallow bay, bordered by Cordell Point to the south and a 500 m long point and breakwater to the north. The old pilot station is located on the northern headland. Four beaches are associated with the bay (T 1182-1185) (Fig. 4.265). Beach T 1182 is the main bay beach and extends for 400 m along the eastern side of the bay. It is a narrow, low energy beach sheltered by the boundary point and shallow rock flats that dominate the southern half of the bay. It is backed by a low grassy foredune, with houses behind the southern half and the centre of Low Head township and a narrow reserve and road behind the northern half. Several small boats are usually moored off the northern half of the beach.
