The southern section of the beach (T 140) commences at the usually blocked mouth of the 20 ha Old Miners Lagoon and curves to the south-southeast for 4.3 km to the southern boundary rocks, and while waves begin to decrease slightly to the south, several rips usually dominate the surf zone. The beach is backed by a vegetated 50-100 m wide foredune then a mixture of cleared and vegetated land including the Bicheno golf course.
