Waves decrease to about 1 m at the beach which usually has a continuous attached bar free of rips. The beach is exposed to strong northeast winds, which maintain a series of large and small blowouts, the larger ones crossing the 200 m wide barrier that impounds 20 ha Freshwater Lagoon. The lagoon breaks out occasionally across the centre to eastern end of the beach.
