Encampment Cove is a very low energy 300 m long cove that faces into the bay and towards the main Shoal Bay beach, 2 km to the east. It receives only low wind waves and very low swell and is usually calm. Within the cove is a 250 m long east-facing beach (MI 5), backed by a small well vegetated foredune and backing 50 m wide wetland. A camping site is located at the southern end of the beach.
