Beach T 223 is located at the mouth of the small Buxton River. The 350 m long beach is attached to the base of Penquite Point in the south, the northern end extending to the lee of Horrels Point as a tidal spit. The beach itself is backed by a 1 km wide series of up to 30 low foredunes that extend back into the river mouth. Sediments delivered by the river and waves have prograded the foredune ridge plain to its present location. The inner ridges are cleared, with the outer ridges covered in trees. Waves are reduced slightly refracting around Penquite Point and average about 1 m at the beach where they usually maintain a low tide terrace.
Beach Length: 0.35km
General Hazard Rating: 4/10
