Shelly Beach lies to the lee of Luther Point and occupies the southern corner of the bay. It is 900 m long, faces north, curves to both ends and consists of two parts (T 266 and 267). Waves are usually less than 0.5 m and calms are common resulting in a narrow sandy beach occasionally broken by rocks and reefs. The western half (beach T 266) is a curving north-facing 400 m long narrow strip of high tide sand fronted by intertidal sand flats with seagrass 50 m offshore. A small rock-tied sandy foreland separates it from the eastern beach T 267, which curves to the east for another 300 m with seagrass growing almost to the shore. Beachfront houses back both beaches, with beach access via side streets and a public jetty in the centre of the eastern beach. The low rocky Luther Point borders it to the east. Boats, small jetties and boat sheds line the eastern end of the beach with boats moored between the beach and point.
