Okehampton Beach (T 256) is located along the northern shore of the bay. It is a 700 m long slightly curving south-facing beach. It faces into Mercury Passage and is afforded moderate protection by Maria Island. Waves average less than 1 m and maintain a low gradient reflective to low tide terrace beach (Fig. 4.42). The beach is backed by a continuous grassy 10 m high 50 m wide foredune containing several stable blowouts, which increase in size towards the eastern end. A 200 m wide wetland backs the dune and drains out across the western corner of the beach. The beach is backed by private land with public access permitted to a small informal camping area behind the eastern end of the beach.
Beach Length: 0.7km
