Rocky Plains Bay lies 2.5 km west of Prettys Point with rugged rocky coast in between. The bay is bordered to the west by 60 m high Point Vivian which extends due southwest for 1 km with Chicken Island and reefs continuing south for another 700 m. Tylers Creek drains the valley at the rear of the bay which is partly filled by the Osmiridium beaches (T 572 and 573), the creek mouth and a central rock outcrop separating the two beaches. The eastern side of Osmiridium beach (T 572) extends west for 300 m to the central outcrop, while the western side (T 573) continues on the other side past the small creek mouth for another 400 m to the 60 m high inner slopes of Point Vivian. Both beaches are fronted by a continuous 200 m wide surf zone usually containing a strong central rip off the creek mouth and small rips to either end. A high foredune and now vegetated climbing dunes back the eastern section, while a 25 m high, 200 m wide foredune backs the western side.
