Beaches BI 41 and 42 extend 1 km west of the narrows to Butlers Point, linked by a central sandy foreland. Beach BI 41 is a curving, north-facing 450 m long sandy beach fronted by the tidal channel and shoals of the narrows, which attach to the island 300 m to the north. The beach is sheltered by the narrows and island and receives only very low swell and easterly wind waves. Butlers Beach (BI 42) extends east of the boundary foreland for 700 m to the lee of 10 m high Butlers Point. It is a low energy sandy beach fronted by sand flats, which narrow to 50 m against the point. The two beaches are backed by a 50-100 m wide zone of low beach ridges, then the wetland.
