Roaring Beach is located on the more exposed northeastern shore of the bay 1.5 km inside Rossel Point. The beach contains two southeast-facing sections, which receive moderate ocean swell. The eastern section (T 528) is a 150 m long white sand beach, which receives waves averaging about 1 m which break across a 30 m wide low tide terrace (Fig. 4.91). It is backed by a low narrow grassy foredune, and then cleared farmland. A small creek drains across the centre of the beach, with a house next to the creek mouth. A small clump of rocks separates it from the main beach T 529 that continues west for 250 m to the base of Burying Ground Point, which extends 500 m to the south. The western section of the beach receives waves up to 1.5 m, which maintain a 50 m wide surf zone, with a rip usually flowing out against the western rocks and an occasional central beach rip. The beach offers one of the few readily accessible beach breaks south of Hobart. It is backed by a low foredune, then cleared farmland and some scattered buildings.
