Beaches T 538 and 539 occupy the next open embayment 300 m to the south. Beach T 538 is a straight 300 m long east-facing beach partly sheltered by Southport Island and a reef, which lie 500 m off the southern headland. The beach receives waves averaging about 1 m, which usually maintain a 50 m wide low tide terrace (Fig. 4.93), with a rip forming against the northern rocks during higher waves. Boulder beaches lie to either side, while a heath-covered Pleistocene sand dune and the wetland back the beach. The dune and others extending south behind the bluff have originated from the exposed sandy bed of Southport Lagoon during periods of low sea level probably during the glacial maxima about 20,000 years ago.
Beach Length: 0.3km
