Sunset Bay is located at the southern end of Alonnah and is an open west-facing 700 m, long slight embayment, bordered to the north by the Mills Reef. Beach BI 70 extends for 150 m along the centre of the bay, from the small mouth of Murphys Creek to the beginning of the low rocky shore that extends to the reef. It is backed by gently sloping partly cleared land, with houses backing the rocky shore to either side.
