A densely vegetated 100 m wide headland separates beaches BI 78 and 79. Beach BI 79 extends north of the headland for 500 m to the small Smoothys Point, which protrudes 100 m into the bay. The low narrow beach is fronted by 200 m wide ridged sand flats that extend out to just past the northern point. A few rocks outcrop on the northern end of the flats. The beach is backed by dense vegetation in the south and a house and cleared land to the north, with the main road paralleling the shore 100 m inland, then slopes rising to over 100 m. This is the narrowest bedrock section of the island with the exposed cliffed east coast located less than 2 km to the east.
