Trial Bay is a curving 600 m wide embayment bordered by Kettering and Deadmans points. Beach T 484 occupies the northwestern shore of the bay and consists of a high tide cobble beach fronted by sand flats that widen to 300 m in the centre of the bay. A picnic area, toilets and boat ramp occupy the small reserve behind the beach, with the Channel Highway clipping the western end. Flights Creek separates the two beaches, with beach T 485 trending to the south for another 300 m to the inner slopes of Deadmans Point. It is a similar low, narrow cobble beach located to the rear of the sand flats, with salt marsh growing towards the southern end of the beach.
