The Cockleshell beaches are located in a 400 m wide embayment at the eastern end of the large bay either side of the mouth of small Missionary Creek. Beach BI 85 is a curving 200 m long northwest-facing low energy beach fronted by 400 m wide ridged sand flats that fill the bay. The creek flows out between low bedrock points immediately north of the beach. A low tree-covered 100 m wide point borders the northern side of the creek, with beach BI 86 then extending north for 100 m. It faces west across the continuous sand flats. Both beaches are backed by generally cleared moderately sloping farmland.
