Neck Beach (BI 12) is the longest and one of the most exposed beaches on the island. It commences at the bluffs and curves to the southeast for 10.3 km to the beginning of Blighs Rocks. Wave energy remains moderate for most of its length averaging 1.5 m, and maintaining a rip-dominated inner transverse bar and rip system with up to 50 rips forming along the beach, and an outer shore-parallel bar, which only breaks during periods of higher waves. There are usually a series of beach breaks right along the beach. The beach is backed by a continuous foredune, which decreases in height and size from 30 m in the north to a few metres in the south. The foredune is backed by Big and Gibbs lagoons in the north then it narrows to 200 m and less along the 4 km long central isthmus section before widening in the south where it is backed by a wetland. Isthmus Bay beach (BI 73) forms the low energy western side of the isthmus. The Bruny Island Main Road runs down the centre of the isthmus providing good access to the beach.
Beach Length: 10.3km
