Basket Bay is an exposed south-facing 700 m wide bay located at the end of the Safety Cove Road, with the clifftop car park providing views of the rugged 150 m high cliffs, as well as the patch of boulders and occasional sand at the base of the cliffs, which is beach T 323. The Remarkable Caves are located in the linear rocks that border the beach. At its widest the beach is sand with waves breaking over a rip-dominated surf. However during high waves the sand is stripped off to reveal a steep boulder beach. It is a steep walk down to the beach and caves, which are used by fishers and the occasional surfers, who surf peaky waves off the beach. Be careful as a strong rip flows out of the small bay during higher waves.
