Cannonball Bay is a narrow V-shaped south-facing rocky bay with beach T 801 located in a 50 m wide gap at the northern end of the 300 m wide bay. The beach lies across a small creek and is composed of cobble and boulders presenting a steep beach face to the persistent waves that roll into the narrow bay. It is bordered by the exposed irregular rocky shore of the bay with larger waves breaking outside and running into the bay. The Granville Harbour road runs 200 m east of the bay.
Inside Granville Harbour is 1.5 km of generally low gradient rocky shore sheltered by outer reef and refraction into the bay with usually low wave to calm conditions along the inner shore. Most of the shoreline is composed of rocks, reefs and boulders. Beach T 802 is located along the southern side of the bay and consists of a curving 200 m long high tide sand and boulder beach grading into an intertidal area of cobbles, boulders and rock flats, with deeper water of the bay further out. The centre of the beach has been partly cleared of boulders and is used as the main boat launching area, with a car and trailer parking area to the rear (Fig. 4.161).
