Beach T 1179 commences at a boundary low sandy foreland and continues to the southeast for 2 km to the end of the beach at the Kelso jetty and boat ramp on the north side of Kelso Bay. This is a crenulate, very low energy beach fronted by sand and rock flats that narrow from 300 m in the north to 100 m at the jetty. While waves are usually low to calm, strong tidal current flows along the edge of the flats. The small Kelso community extends the length of the beach, with a caravan park at the northern end.
