A low, rocky reef separates Woolamai Safety Beach from the Cape Woolamai North Beach. Sand dunes spilling over from Woolamai Surf Beach back the western half of this 600 m long beach, with the scarped bluffs of northern Cape Woolamai backing the eastern half. On the eastern side of the bluffs is a similar, but smaller, 200 m long beach, bordered by 30 m high scarped bluffs and backed by grassy slopes. Both the beaches face north-east and lie inside Cape Woolamai. They are sheltered from Bass Strait, with waves averaging less than 0.5 m, that produce two relatively steep, narrow beaches.
