North of Flynn Reef the coast trends north-east. It consists of four prominent, 20 to 30 m high, grassy bluffs at Flynn, Tyro, Angelina, and Hen and Chicken reefs. Three long, narrow, crenulate beaches lie in between the bluffs. The beaches continue around the base of the bluffs and are fronted by extensive intertidal rock flats on either side. Low dunes back the beaches, with the small Flynn and McHaffie lagoons behind Farm and Woolshed Beaches. The three beaches are backed by private farmland and public access is restricted to walking along the beaches. The nearest car access and parking are located on the south side of Flynn Reef, at the northern end of Angelina Beach.
The beaches all face west and receive waves usually less than 0.5 m. This produces the steep, narrow beaches, which have no bar and deep water close inshore, where there is no reef flat. At low tide, the reefs are exposed and much of the beach is high and dry. The beaches themselves are crenulate in between the reefs and rocks.
