Arch Rock is the most prominent of a series of calcarenite bluffs, cliffs and sea stacks that extend for 2 km along the shore, north of Morgan Beach Rock (the actual arch collapsed about 1920). These rocks are remnants of coastal dune systems deposited during previous high stands of the sea at least 120 000 years ago; and are possibly many hundreds of thousands of years older at their base. The rocks also form extensive reefs off the two beaches. The second beach (139) is 400 m long and, while fronted by reefs, is more open and receives waves averaging 1.5 m.
