Cape Liptrap is the oldest part of Victoria, consisting of rocks over 500 million years old. Today these resilient rocks form the prominent 100 m high cape and the jagged rocky shores to either side. A road runs right to the cape where there is a car park, lookout and lighthouse. The lighthouse was built in 1913 and stands 93 m above sea level.
At the western foot of the cape is a 200 m long, steep, cobble and boulder beach, fronted by jagged rocks that are exposed at low tide. The beach is unsuitable for bathing or surfing, however the rocks around the cape are more popular for adventurous rock fishers. In all cases, beware of the high seas that dominate this cape. Just off the eastern side of the cape is a reef which, in a moderate to large swell, produces some rideable, if fullish, waves.
