Cape Leveque beach (K 88) commences on the northern side of the creek mouth beachrock and trends north for 5.8 km to the bright red sandstone of the cape (Fig. 4.17). The beach faces north-northwest and is fronted by a 1 km wide band of submerged beachrock reef in the south and rock reefs to the north. The beach itself is relatively steep and reflective at high tide, and backed by a 1 km wide active dune field, which narrows to the north. The beach terminates at the base of the cape’s red layered sandstone and provides some of Australia’s most spectacular and colourful coastal scenery. The Cape Leveque landing ground backs the northern end of the beach, while the cape area has a lighthouse, small community, and the Aboriginal-run Kooljamin Resort.
