The eastern side of South Head is called Sandy Point and marks the beginning of 3.5 km long beach K 46. The wide, low gradient ultradissipative sandy beach faces initially east, then curves round to face north in lee of Ledge Point, with several hundred metre wide rock flats extending seaward of each boundary point. The northern half of the beach is backed by the dunes spreading over from the South Head beach, while the southern half is crossed by a shallow creek, then vegetated coastal plain, with vehicle tracks paralleling the back of the beach.
