Beach WA 1495 commences at the point and curves to the east then north for 6.5 km, terminating at a small sandy foreland 1 km south of the next gap in the reef. The entire beach is paralleled by a continuous barrier reef located 1.5 km offshore, with a wide shallow lagoon between the reef and shore (Fig. 2.21b). The beach is backed by a 200-300 m wide series of foredune ridges, which widen to 400 m at the northern foreland located to the lee of a wider section of reef and has been partly formed by wave refraction through a 1.5 km wide gap in the reef. The wide gap permits refracted waves to reach the shore where they average up to 1 m in height. As a consequence the shoreline has been eroded back to a 1 km long central section of 10 m high calcarenite bluffs. Beach WA 1496 is located between the foreland and the bluffs, while beaches WA 1497 and 1498 occupy two small indentations in the bluffs.
