A line of reefs lying 1-3 km offshore lower waves sufficiently to permit extensive seagrass meadows to gown almost to the shore the length of the bay resulting usually low waves to calm conditions at the shore. The Kangaroo Point recreational area is located at the southern end of the bay and contains a picnic area, bar-b-que facilities and toilets. Most of the bay shore is backed by vegetated transgressive dunes, apart from a parabolic that has blown from the centre of the beach up to 1.5 km to the north.
