Wedge Island beach (WA 936) commences at the foreland and trends due north for 4 km to an intertidal outcrop of calcarenite. The continuous sandy beach is composed of fine carbonate sands and has a low gradient, with a low tide terrace to the lee of the southern reefs, while wave height increases sufficiently by the northern end to maintain a 50 m wide bar cut by rips during and following periods of higher waves. The Wedge Island shack community used to cover much of the foreland, with fishing boats moored off the southern end of the beach.
