Beach WA 1073 is a reef-protected beach that extends for 3.6 km to the southern side of Flat Rock. The reefs lie about 500 m offshore and parallel the beach. A heavy wave breaking occurs across the reefs, with a relatively calmer lagoon between the reefs and shore with lower waves at the shore resulting in a reflective to low tide terrace beach. The only access is via private tracks across the 2 km wide dunes from the backing farmland or along the beach from Flat Rock.
Flat Rock is accessible via a 2.5m long gravel road off the Brand Highway. This is a popular surfing location with breaks on the reefs off the beach. The ‘flat rock’ is a 50-100 m wide intertidal calcarenite rock platform that is located directly in front of the car park. A break in the outer reefs permits higher waves to reach the platform and produce the surfing breaks relatively close to shore.
Beach Length: 3.6km
