Beaches WA 1717-1719 occupy the eastern end of a 3.5 km long barrier island whose western half is fringed by mangroves, while beachrock outcrops to the east. Beach WA 1717 occupies a 200 m long gap in the mangroves, with tidal flats extending 2-3 km offshore. It is part of a barrier spit, which continues east of the mangroves for another 600 m as beach WA 1718. The spit terminates as it attaches to a 100 m long outcrop of beachrock that forms the eastern boundary of the beach. The wide tidal flats and a tidal channel front the beach. Beach WA 1719 commences at the beachrock and curves into the boundary creek mouth as a recurved spit for 300 m. The creek is a distributary of the Maitland River located 4 km to the east. All three beaches are backed by a 400 m wide series of older recurved spits that comprise the eastern end of the barrier, then 1-1.5 km wide salt flats.
Beach Length: 0.6km
