False Entrance bay has a curving 2.8 km long beach (WA 1186) that contains segments of shore parallels beachrock and inshore reef, as well as a few open sections backed by a low gradient beach (Fig. 4.290). Waves average about 1.5 m and break across a surf zone that widens from 50 m in the south to 150 m in the north and is dominated by six permanent reef-controlled rips. There is good surf across the reefs, particularly towards the more protected southern end. A sandy 4 WD track off the Steep Point track runs out to the bay, to an informal camping area behind the high foredune, then onto Zuytdorp Point, with another spur tracking north along the beach and coast to Crayfish Bay. The beach supplies one of the longest active dunes in Australia. Sand blows out of the southwest-facing, central-northern section of beach and is actively transgressing up to 20 km to the north along Bellefin Prong, with older dunes continuing on for another 18 km, 38 km in all.
