The beach (WA 1376) forms the eastern shore. It is a 2.8 km long discontinuous, crenulate series of usually two to three slowly moving and merging low, narrow spits. Sand flats extend 1.5 km to the east and up to 6 km to the north, while the mangroves back the beach. Its base is attached to the low foredune ridges at the eastern end of beach WA 1375 and on its eastern side to the 30 m high steep red Herald Bluffs that dominate the shoreline down to Monkey Mia.
At Herald Bluff the shoreline turns and trends to the south as a series of 20-40 m high slightly crenulate bluffs, with four beaches located in some of the indentations. All are backed by steep bluffs with no vehicle or safe foot access, boats being the best acce
