Petit Point is a low sandy point located at the northern tip of the 30 km long sediment cell that commences on the eastern end of Shell Beach and gradually moves sediment and recurved spits up through beaches WA 1395 and 1396 towards the point. The point represents an accumulation of sand in the form of at least seven recurved spits, the tip of the curve forming the point. Beach WA 1397 is a convex-shaped, north-facing 2.5 km long low outer sand spit that forms the point. It is attached in the west to a line of older red dunes, with the Holocene spits splaying out to the north and east. The shoreline is fronted by sand flats up to 7 km wide in the west narrowing to 1.5 km in the east. These flats parallel one of the main tidal channels for Hamelin Pool.
