Cape Ransonnett lies 4 km inside the passage with beaches to either side of the low sandy cape. Beach WA 1191 occupies the western side and is a 300 m long sand beach bordered in the west by low dune-capped calcarenite bluffs, and terminates at the sandy foreland of the cape. The foreland has prograded 300 m into the passage, with shallow sand flats to either side. Because of the access to deep water off the foreland it is used to launch small fishing boats.
