The northern beach (NSW 106) is 300 m in length and backed by densely vegetated 40 m high bluffs and can be accessed by walking up the beach from the southern car parks. The north beach usually has waves averaging 1.4 m with two permanent rips against the headland and southern rocks.

Swimming

Safest to the south where the beach is patrolled seasonally and the waves a little lower. Rips dominate elsewhere.

Surfing

A popular beach break holding southeast waves to 2.5 m, and with the north end offering protection from the summer north-easterlies.

Fishing

There are usually good beach gutters providing whiting, bream, dart and tailor, together with rock fishing off Digger Head into the Blue Gutter, and on Macauleys Head at Jarretts Rock and the more dangerous Sunday Seat. The rocks are fished for blackfish, luderick, groper, mulloway and flathead.

General

Diggers Beach is locked in between the prominent 40 m high Diggers Head to the north and 45 m high Macauleys Head 700 m to the south. Between the heads two beaches, separated by a small rock outcrop, curve round to face east between the heads (Fig. 4.53).
