In between the coast protrudes 7 km west into Van Diemen Gulf, as a low section of coastal plain surrounded by salt flats, mangroves and mud flats. The narrow sand beach is located on the northern side of the protrusion and has two strips of intertidal bedrock outcropping to either side, linked by intertidal mud flats, which extend 500 m off the beach.
